hi all,

richard and i have chated on the phone recently about closing down this
working groups till some future date, since we both feel that we did what
we could so far.

one reason is that we both have very little time available for the kind
of work we would like to be doing. more important, the nature of
collaboration in imc-uk has changed for better, but *not enough* for us to
be able to participate in a open and collaborative way. recent example
with application for imc-london shows well both sides: how closed minded
people can be, and how, still, there's some hope for that to change for
better (andi's call for contribution to imc-london, tony's public
announcement of first imc-london specific meeting).

i would just like to to note that roughly six months ago, we were told
(even promised on an occassion) by few people from the core
'collective' that effectively runs imc-uk, that they will name themselves
as a group/collective. they never did so. instead they decided to start
formation of imc-london in similar (closed) maner. recently, they gave
signs of willinges to be more open. judging by how many times we were
mislead to believe things they said, it's hard to think much of it.

however, i still believe that openness and accountability, collaboration,
neccesary contribution of measurable labour, and more honesty in general
are in the interests of the project and vast majority of its participants.

in short: i don't see any alternative to what we have been proposing and
working on for past couple of years, and what has been displayed by the
work of london working group (LWG).

in my view, the biggest thing that we kickstarted and worked on, based on
principles that LWG was founded on, is http://docs.indymedia.org .
it's use by over 300 indymedia volunteers from over 30 local IMC's and
most global working groups speaks for itself. it's use by Imc-uk
also shows about acceptance of some of our practices of opennes and
information sharing.

richard and i will focus energies more on Framework for Open
Organizations, while i plan to remain active on both tech and
organizational side of imc-london. however, my time for that is very
limited, and that will be reflected in my involvement.

if no one comes up with different ideas about possible future of LWG, i
will start next week a draft of our letter to let the rest of imc-uk know
about this. that draft will contain too what we think we achieved so far,
and what we think is the way forward for imc-london.

regards,

toni
