Process dependency graph
This is a first attempt to draw an architectural diagram for Open Organizations. It shows the dependencies between most of the processes we've proposed so far, and links them a little bit with the ethical approach taken in
EthicsAndSocialTransformation.
The graph is constructed in layers. Well-being is the main goal for societies; it is implemented through the general processes in the next layer, which are in turn implemented by more specific processes further down.
I've left out decision-making because everything depends on it. Therefore I've also left out the thorny issue of what kind of decision-making should be used in which contexts.
I think there are clearly some things missing from this picture in order to reach the goal of well-being. Accountability can't be implemented only through public ownership of knowledge; we've acknowledged that there need to be other mechanisms for this (e.g.
something akin to a legal system), but we haven't described them. I also think
risk management and
error handling need to be treated separately.
The graph image is generated with
Graphviz.
