Valter Configuration

A development and testing machine, called valter after the code name Marshal Tito used while working in Moscow at the Comintern in 1936, and after the 1972 Bosnian film Walter Defends Sarajevo (Valter brani Sarajevo).

General Policy

This machine is meant to be used as a host system for virtual machines running under User Mode Linux (UML). New software and configuration should be installed first under UML (where you can do whatever you want), then installed in the host system for testing, before being installed on a production server.

This machine is used for testing of new sofware and configurations.
HOWEVER, There are some production services running on this machine:

System changelog

Software upgrades and configuration changes in the host system should be noted in the changelog.

Any change that isn't a simple upgrade (with no configuration changes) should also be documented in the sections below.
